James Kalm is honored to bring viewers a brief walkthrough tour of "Richard Artschwager!" at the Whitey. For over fifty years the enigmatic Artschwager has befuddled the art viewing public and critical establishment. Since his first show with Leo Castelli in 1964, the artist has been successively classified as a Pop artist, Minimalist and Conceptualist. All these classifications seem more attempts by curators to enlist his unique vision rather than an accurate consideration of his individual contributions to the creative milieu. With the artist in his eighty-ninth year, and twenty-five years since his last local retrospective, this exhibition is long over due, and well worth any art lover's time for appreciation. A musical introduction is provided by "Angelo" and was recorded live, under the Arch in Washington Square Park, on Oct. 25, 2012.
