Taking as its starting point the dystopian themes on memory in the George Orwell novel 1984, and the thoughts in the secret diary of the main character Winston Smith; the video portrays a blank figure devoid of identity, memory and body. The mask is a product of the wasteland of historical revisionism, and a flow of information that has been changed at the source as in a deviated river. The terror that is the realization of the truth in the words that appear on the screen, speak to us not only as a far off and fantastical dystopian nightmare, but as a potential byproduct of the information age. A reality in which our own flow of information appears as unchecked fact, and like in the wakened nightmare of Winston Smith, subject to revisionism at the source, and after the event. With this revisionism in place our memories and henceforth our very identity can be challenged as in: It never happened.
