Tracey Emin and Richard Long receive British honours

Tracey Emin and Richard Long have both been awarded honours in the British New Year honours list. Awarded by the Queen under advice from the British government, Emin has been made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE), with Long being given the Order of the British Empire. The illustrator Quentin Blake – most famous for his drawings for Roald Dahl's books – received a knighthood. John Leighton, the director general of National Galleries of Scotland; Ruth Mackenzie, the director of the Cultural Olympiad; and industrial designer Kenneth Grange also became commanders and the fashion designer Stella McCartney was named an OBE.
