Art Across The City 2011, Swansea
Swansea is preparing to host one of Wales’s most exciting and prestigious visual arts events, Locws International Projects: Art Across The City which takes place from 8th – 30th October 2011 in public sites across the city. Following the success of the event in April this year we have invite five artists to come to Swansea and create new artwork. The artists are Holly Davey, Helen Edling, Mark Folds, S Mark Gubb and Bristow Lloyd. The exhibition sees artists from Wales, UK and Europe create new temporary artworks that are a direct response to the heritage, people, culture, and landscape of Swansea. The artworks are all displayed in public spaces across the centre of the city and are free and open for all to view.
Information panels will be located at the National Waterfront Museum as well as Swansea Central Library and Civic Centre during the event, where brochures and maps for all the exhibits are available. In the Glynn Vivian on Wednesday 19th October at 1pm Locws International will be hosting an artist talk with some of this events artists. This is a free event and everyone is encouraged to attend. There is also a ‘Locws Schools’ exhibition of work by pupils from Crug Glas, Felindre, Pen-y-Bryn and Pen-y-Fro at the Civic Centre and Central Library in Swansea.
Locws International works with contemporary artists to create new visual artworks and projects that respond to the culture and heritage of the city of Swansea, with support from The Arts Council of Wales, The Welsh Government, The City & County of Swansea, Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales and the David and Christopher Lewis Foundation.
