In the current climate of falling house prices, UK retail administration and problems at stock markets record prices have been paid for works of art in Europe, China and the USA.
How art rises in value? What would be a good investment?

Prints!

Yes, prints are affordable but prints are used as decoration and not as investment. A signed limited edition has not increased much and even antique prints are very difficult to reach the price paid. More money is spent elsewhere.

Commodities such as jewellery, gold or diamonds have not increased in value at the same rate as some artists. Then again some artists works are being collected as investment. It is difficult to see who's work will stand the test of time as art investment is a long-run race.

Emerging Artist!

Thinking about buying an original art. Too expensive? Have you ever thought about buying from an emerging artist?

Damien Hirst has split from Gagosian gallery after his solo show at Tate Modern. Is it a good move or not we will find out in a couple of years . Hirst’s sales might be quiet now but in time it could increase.

This is why you should purchase artworks that you will enjoy and would like to keep in your family for a few generations. It is unlikely to make a fortune over night and if you get to buy an artist early on in their career in time you might just find the next Picasso.
