Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum closes as consequence of Egyptian political situation

The Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum in Egypt is to close due the country's unstable political situation. Bassam El Baroni, Mona Marzouk, and Mahmoud Khaled said in a statement, that the organisation, which has been hosting projects, exhibitions, talks and symposia at its space for seven years, would undertake a 'strategical withdrawal', and would perhaps reestablish itself sometime in the future. They explained further, 'We have come to the conclusion that this role – a balancing act between an open minded approach to education, a quality based presentation of art, and a context based criticality – is no longer sustainable as Egypt and Alexandria shift and fluctuate both positively and negatively in a period of heightened political and social transitions.'
