If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Drawing, Photography, Video
My name is Mário, I graduated in Industrial Design and became an Artist... but found out I'm living in the wrong country...
About my artwork
I love drawing with coloured pencils and inking those sketches with India ink.
My main inspiration is the female body followed by Nature, tattoos and art as a whole. About 5 years or so ago I bought these huge and heavy sketchbooks and took one to the beach. I had some inspirational photos on my phone and I drew the outline and instead of using my pencils to draw the volume I decided to create a pattern inside the outline and that’s the way it all started. Later I moved on to using those sketches and created some vector drawings with them. It’s obvious that simplicity is not my thing, though I try very hard to achieve it as well as realism so when (in 2009) I had the chance to work over the photos of Meluxine by Peter Stanton I thought this could be a way of having more realism on my artworks.I had Art History classes for more than 5 years and always thought it was bothersome beyond belief and only really liked it on my final year at college. Art Nouveau, Realism and Impressionism are my main influences. Alphonse Mucha and Edouard Manet are my favourites. Tattoos are obviously a great source of inspiration and I unconsciously try to blend all this together when I work.
