Working predominantly in oil on canvas, Lisa V Robinson's practice explores and celebrates painting as a physical and sensual process. Her current series of works aim to push the boundaries of painting beyond two dimensions, by creating a fictional space within the canvas.
She looks to the immediate environment for ideas for possible space arrangements and mark making, for example; architecture, room interiors and cityscapes. These visual ideas are deconstructed, and recreated into abstracted components on the canvas. The paintings are often intensely layered, with layers frequently removed and large areas of flat space recreated, in order to question the figure and ground relationship.
As the paintings are untitled, this allows the viewer unlimited possibilities about what the ambiguous space on the canvas could represent
