Kenna Shapiro uses abstract forms to articulate the human experience when words do not suffice. To Shapiro, the sensuality of the medium is just as important as the image itself. In pursuit of sustainability, works are created using salvaged materials.

Shapiro received her bachelor’s degree in art with a concentration in art history, but her inspiration comes from her travels to eighteen nations across the globe which taught her that art is a universal language.  Her work has been featured on PBS television and exhibited throughout North America and Europe.

I think "Altar for Zapotec Ancestors" is an inspirational idea. Our ancestors and memories of them should be a treasure everywhere - an essential part of the cultural diversity that leads to creativity. Instead, they are often forgotten and we struggle on the slippery downhill path to a world devoid of memory
