Begining my careear in Fine Art and I need a good way to network with other artists, discuss ideas and gain inspiration. i am currently in my last year at UCS. I want to be involved with connecting UCS Fine Art with the wider world.
About my artwork
I look at the concept of "my reality". Im currently looking at the idea of control, as it is something that relates through experiences in my life where I have often felt controlled, forced and manipulated by others.
Artists I like
Some of my faviorite artists include:
Helen Chadwick and her Piss Flowers(1991) I like how they examine the differences in the sexes in a visual way reversing the roles of the flower in realtion to who created it.
Francesca Woodman is a big influnce to me as the dream-like quality that runs through my work is remenicent of Francescas' work. I like the symbols she uses within her work, it gives a surreal feel as it feels more like a snapshot from a dream world.
Marina Abramovic is an artist that has influenced me on a conceptual level as in a lot of her work is about extream lengths of enduring pain. Rythym 0 (1974) was my favorite because it was so interesting, almost like a psychological experement as viewers became more angry as Abramovic remained passive. Ending with Abramovic moving torwards the crowd and them fleeing
Im interested in history in particular victorian times. I like to read, my fav books being alice in wonderland, Dracular and Frankenstein. Music influences me, at the moment im listening to Dream Theater as they speak about regresson. Im iterested in lots of spiritual ideas and looking at mythology, folklore and dreams. i like to look at ideas in psychology- particulary where imagination comes from and the subconcious mind. I enjoy to sew and have spent the summer learning how to construct a corset.
