If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
I am...
I am a painter who lives in London UK and I graduated at Middlesex University with a 2:1.
I am male and enjoy life. I like the sun, music, art, xbox, living in london, exercise etc
About my artwork
i am heavily inspired by abstract expressionism. I enjoy painting large scale as i feel that my brand of abstract works best within a certain size limit otherwise they become stretched out and lose their intensity.
Artists I like
gerhard richter
max ernst
anselm kiefer
rene magritte
John Hoyland
Jasper Johns
Mark Rothko

My apparant new emerging style

What I like about having a year and a half break from painting is that my gestures and mindset of painting completely reset itself. At uni, I presented myself with the mode of painting as much as you can before the year is over so that you get a better grade. In hind site, I can see that my style at… Continue

I have been struggling

For the past 2 weeks I have been struggling over deciding how to finish my latest painting, I have thought about what colours I should use, which ones would look good, where the composition needs light or dark parts, if I need to use lines as a directional purpose on the canvas to make it read better…I have just been looking at it for too long without finding a solution to the problem of finishing an abstract painting.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, finishing an abstract… Continue

So being a abstract painter has its troubles, you can paint until your hearts content. You can throw colour after colour at the canvas and it will still remain an abstract painting. You can add layer upon layer and no one will ever know but yourself what was underneath that final layer.

Underneath the top layer may have been your master stroke, the most magnificent gesture you could possible create. Overkill is the fear. When your enjoying the action of painting so much that you… Continue

I think

I think i know how to finish a painting without even starting it.

I have had the canvases sat in my room for a few weeks now but i need to get the one thats on my wall finished first.

I realized that for my paintings to work, they need be full of signpost gestures of the paintbrush. They need to be there so that the viewer can read the painting at ease and read his/her way into the painting.

The eye must be drawn… Continue
