About my artwork
I suppose my work is encouraged by my immediate surroundings. At present I reside in Edinburgh and when I arrived I went out with my camera and took hundreds of pictures of the city. However, I was very underwhelmed by the whole experience. A realisation you are just one of many taking pictures of the same thing. How many pictures of that castle are taken every week, every day, every hour, every minute. I was just one of millions with a picture of that bloody castle. I incorporated methods into the pictures that I developed at art school; working on-top of the photographs to sort of overhaul the stillness and inject a graffiti like mark. I used alot of spray paint but was very conscious not to be a graffiti artist but incorporate it in a way that it would benefit the visual without the connotations you get from seeing spary paint.
At present I am trying to paint again. Which is a very difficult thing when you have not purposely picked up a paint brush in a few years. Stuck in a collage and mark making cell I was but now...I must paint!
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
Most things at the DCA, Fruitmarket gallery and gallery of modern art....just avoid the tatt!

Great opportunity for artists: Culture is the true identity power. In this context the major role of the artists is to promote through art cultural diversity and preserve common values. Intercultural dialogue through art is an important instrument. Art is not a means - art is a space in which everything is possible, in which different times, subjects and objects, sometimes divergent, coexist. And not just coexist, but communicate and create values. Through art, culture, tolerance, initiating a dialogue among nations, among various artistic expressions, a real dialog among real people. Culture communicates in the language of heart, which is understood by everybody. For artists, communication is essential – both with the audience – the art consumer, and with representatives of national and international art
groups.

While HMC does not provide funding for residencies, we are helping to facilitate the creation of programs and support the costs of the exhibitions.
