About my artwork
Simple lives of the Hyderabadi Molla’s, Khazi’s and Begum’s come alive in Rayees Ahmed’s paintings. They are people from once upon a time Hyderabad, gradually fading out in the transition of time. Indoors of havelis and mosques open up inhabitants casually dressed in casual posters. Standing, sitting, reclining figures talking to each other create an environment that seems too familiar. The artist captures men and women involved in discussions and informal talks. Conspiracies and tension come alive in the gestures of the characters portrayed. Composition imbibes various activities associated with the images. Whispers, noises, sounds and feelings associated with the activities are very vocal in these paintings, while the artist fondly recreates the diminishing past.
Rayees Ahmed’s paintings are in oil, acrylic and egg tempera mediums. The translucent layers in his paintings develop into an efficient expression in his egg temperas. This rendering gives a rustic, old and an antique facet to the portraits by highlighting the central theme.
