If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Conceptual, Drawing, Photography, Sculpture
Jewish, Born in East London, Mile End and grew up on a bombed out but then growing 1960s council housing estate in Tower Hamlets.
I am very grateful to my late Grandfather who started me off in art by helping me to draw and learn perspective!
Also for my parents who encouraged me with my art! Not to mention my endearing wife!
About my artwork
As an artist I have sought to explore my interest in Shape Form and Colour in order to achieve Balance and Harmony. Many of my ideas derive from movement in the World I see around me.
During my early years as an amateur artist I sought to explore the works of professional artists, visiting art galleries to see if I could find any resemblances to the work I created.
Many of the artists that did interest me and therefore influenced me at the start of my career went on to shape and develop my work today.
These artists, Miro,Kandinsky, Alexandra Colder and Anthony Caro, had been predominant in the 20th Century, creating art for what is now known as Abstract Expressionism. It was their influence that had led me toward acknowledging & creating this type of art for myself.
They created art which had interest & similarity to my own, i.e., within shape, form and colour, achieving harmony and balance within sculpture, paintings or drawings produced by them at that time.
Today these artists still influence me and my art work but not so profoundly as I have my own strong personal interests. I have used many materials to develop and create my art work, wood, metal, paper, oil pastel and of late photography, moving toward a new interest in collage & imagery with the use of oil pastel, plastic coloured paper card and some photo imagery.
My work I find now moving toward my Jewish cultural heritage!
With acknowledgement of past interest and influence that I have obtained and explored!
