If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Digital, Drawing, Painting
I am...
a professional contemporary artist who has never employed the services of a gallery or an agent nor have I paid commission. My work is rarely shown in public but has been significantly represented in museum exhibitions. The old gallery system business model is dead. Vive l'internet!
About my artwork
Google is my best friend - I flip through troves of art historical representations like others might a book of fabric swatches. I have no respect for the hierarchies that exist between high and low culture, good or bad taste.

Detailed tonal drawings are made which are scanned into my computer. Digital tools are then used extensively to construct a composition after which I utilise customised software programmes to develop the pictorial space. When I think the digital image is up to scratch I begin the process of recreating it by hand using oil paints. In this respect I have something in common with Hyper Realist artists.

The paintings themselves are conceptually loaded figurative works painted with an obsessive attention to surface finish. This normally produces a painting which has more in common with Van Eyck than Van Dyck in terms of painterly qualities- or lack of. I go to considerable lengths to remove anything resembling artistic handwriting from my paintings.
Artists I like
Nigel Cooke, Glenn Brown, Jeff Koons, Mark Ryden, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, the Chapman Brothers, John Currin, Takashi Murakami and Maurizio Cattelan.
Art, literature, advertising imagery, music, animation, comics and computer games.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
'Skin' at the Wellcome Collection, London.
