I am...
An independent curator and editor of an art section in an international magazine.

Okay, two weeks in and it's started already...

I would never consider approaching an artist to discuss the possibility of a project without first having done a reasonable amount of research on his or her work before making the move. Please pay me the same respect. The link to my site with my practice history is clearly indicated. Follow it and work out if there's likely to be some connection between what we are doing before asking me to discuss/comment/consider/admire/whatever your work. In my case, the word 'curator' does not mean fan, captive audience, agent, gallerist, counsellor, social secretary, social work or counsellor. I'm interested in art, not the social maladjustment of artists. So, if you haven't had the courtesy to initiate some private dialogue before urging me to consider your work, please don't get upset if absolutely nothing happens. If you haven't taken the time to consider the context and circumstances in which I work, don't expect me to take the time explaining that, in most cases, entirely separate from the issue of your work, there is probably very little that I can or am interested in doing to further your artistic career. That sound bitchy? Well the next time I turn up at your show and hog the air time demanding that you read one of my essays, you'd be pissed off too. Think about it.

If you want to initiate getting me to look at your work, at least bother to fake some respect by pretending that you've first bothered to look at what I do. And I don't mean just reading that one word; curator. Thanks.

Similarly, before asking me to consider your work for inclusion in Wound magazine, please do a little research on the magazine. Whilst 'young talent' is included, the artists covered stretch to some of the top 'blue chip' practitioners of today. Yes, CV, does count. And if it hasn't included at least one or two projects in institutions, foundations or respected non-profit spaces, it is unlikely to be considered. It's philosophy is based on giving ' a leg up' to emerging talent that are already proving their potential and professionalism, not those who may be talented but have yet to prove an ability to work professionally as an artist. Yep, it's a tough old world. But there's no mystery to it, so please don't place me in the position of being the bastard who has to prick your bubble of self-delusion. To quote the great Kiki, 'Ladies and gentlemen, if I were capable of love, I would love you all.'.
About my artwork
I don't have pretensions that curatorial practice is making art.
Artists I like
Too many to name. That's why I'm a curator.

Top Tips or Nursery Slopes for Artists

If you're going to ask me to take a look at your work, you better make sure your page has more CV details than just your training. No, it won't be what decides my personal opinion about your work, but it will help me do a risk assessment on whether your a nutter or a lazy-arsed slacker. A CV is a reasonable indicator of whether you are able to play nicely with the other kids (like curators, galleries and institutions) and get out of bed in the morning and do things like all the professional activities associated with being a working artist. Without it, the best your going to get from me is distant respect....

And PS, I WILL delete any comments that involve video or bandwidth-chewing slideshows.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
Mine of course.

I've read your page notes and respect your position. I have no doubt as to your professionalism or ability. Benny is right, you do appear to be a "true professional". Now, I am no "lazy arsed slacker" (my history testifies to that!) but you make it too difficult. I wanted an online friendship not the obstacle course that comes with marriage. If you want that, you do some work...look at my page if you wish to and if not........ que sera.....have a nice life! 'Bye.

thanks for your entry on this page - and your www., too. Nice to meet a true professional here. I did accept your friendship. Great to see Michael Samuels work in the show you currated. I know his work from Rokeby where I had a solo last year. Best Benny

Not much of a c.v im afraid Ken..straight out of rehab into painting..no degrees(unfortunately)..been with The Rebecca Hossack Gallery since 05 and have a solo show at charlotte street next year..
Glad the blatant plug got your attention though, im not really looking for consideration at the moment though, just shameful adulation and wonderment at the flawless execution of a soiled existence...
Your turn to rise to the Phalange, i do believe
