If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
About my artwork
John Cabot’s work explores the boundary where skills stop and chance starts, where the system outside the person takes over the individual.
In method John balances between, on the one hand, letting accidents break through the given order of the work, and on the other hand, using a method to partly turn off his own input and personality.
Each incident, each step is determined by happenstance, and is therefore partially predictable. Causes occur outside the will, but are equally provoked. The effects appear as physical reactions or as a response given by the painter’s logic. In turn a concentrated reading of the work apparently may appear like pure blind instinct or ruthlessness. A constant rotation of external laws and human manipulation control the work.
Cause and effect are closely monitored. In that sense change is not just random coincidence, the frame within which it must operate is determined in a very personal way.
