If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Drawing, Painting
I am...
from a long line of artists and artisans. I live and work in Lincolnshire where I make all my stretchers, canvasses, panels, oils, glues, waxes, varnishes and paints by hand.

I run my studio as an atelier and offer internships to 16-21 year olds My students are thrown into the full production of works of art, their presentation, marketing and sale. They get a good handle on how to run what is in effect small scale manufacturing, its disciplines and economics.
About my artwork
I have exhibited in London since 1995. I am represented by the art dealer Jonathan Cooper. In addition to producing still lifes I work on a wide variety of commissioned projects including portraiture and historic restoration. My paintings are scattered in private collections and places of worship across the globe and have been so described:
‘The very ordinariness of the subject matter makes these works almost thrilling in their truth and power.’ Sister Wendy Beckett
‘An art historian cannot help but sense in his works the distinguished genealogy of William Nicholson, Morandi and Fantin-Latour, and hear echoes that reach back to Luis Meléndez and beyond… James Gillick's paintings are silent works that speak.’ Gabriele Finaldi of the Museo del Prado
