About my artwork
My practice is bound up with the exploration of art as a channel for discovery, for the cross-pollination of ideas and as a new means of communication. As an artist and writer I am concerned with promoting and nurturing a greater synergy between visual art and writing, both through my personal practice and through collaboration with other artists, writers and creative practitioners.

In August 2011 I co-founded CANNED Magazine in order to create a platform for critical and creative discussion across the mediums of visual art and writing bringing together artists, writers and cultural critics from all stages of their careers and from both regional, national and international locations. In my personal practice and in my role as Co-Editor of CANNED Magazine I am concerned with how an idea can be explored through the parallel mediums of art and writing, each one serving to propel and enlarge the other and offering new perspectives, approaches and ways of thinking.

My visual work is often laboriously and highly crafted, drawing deliberate parallels to the arts and crafts movement as a means for elevating the banal images and materials of the every day. I am interested in how this relationship can be used both to explore ideologies or intentions and to draw parallels between the past and our contemporary context e.g. the socialist ideals of authenticity and the impossible strive for naturalistic perfection as extolled by William Morris. What connects the different aspects of my practice – paintings, objects, writing and site-responsive drawings – is the question of how, or even whether, these forms of expression can be taken beyond themselves in order to imagine the unimaginable and make manifest the ineffable or immaterial.
Artists I like
Ged Quinn, Pio Abad, Katsutoshi Yuasa, Ant Macari, Narbi Price, Alasdair Gray, Dorothea Tanning, Paula Rego, Cindy Sherman, Jorge Queiroz, Ant Macari, Ann Hamilton, Mona Hatoum, Nina Saunders, Robert Gober, Cathy de Monchaux, Miranda Whall, Vasilis Asimakopolous, Douglas Gordon, Neo Rauch, Marcel Dzama, Luc Tuymans, Gelitin, Peter Doig, Olafur Eliasson, Raqib Shaw, Asume vivid astro focus, William Morris, The PreRaphelites, ..... and manymore than i can reasonably begin to mention here........

hi, is he, I'll need to get in touch with him, after this MA I obviously want to carry on my artwork, but I feel teaching is on the cards. Yeah its mostly drawing and painting I do here, Ive dabbled in sculpture, but at the moment its all drawing with a couple of large paintings still to finish basquiat/cubist style. I bought some really good linen that I want to start painting on soon using a limited pallet, I want to have them quite bare and linear, these will be figurative. spk soon
