I am...
I'm a multidisciplinary artist working in photography, painting, film and music (composition, production and voice).

About my artwork
In my creative work I am immersed in portraying the truth. What the truth is, what it is composed of and how to perceive it, are central to my themes.

I believe that to discern the precinct of truth, it is essential to nurture a fluent dialogue with the subconscious. By developing a keen awareness of intuitive feelings, a curiosity and belief in the imagery and sensory episodes delivered in the dream state, one can discover an authentic affinity with the world.

I notice dreams and waking life often overlap, uncannily offering a timely metaphor to underline a message sent by the subconscious. Bringing this nocturnal awareness into the daylight helps me to strengthen an alliance with my environment, to discover my bearing in the world and to perceive subtleties of seemingly reciprocal influence.

I would like the viewer of my work to be drawn into the imagery and explore their own sensory response without deliberately guiding them to any foregone conclusion of my own, but opening them up to the tangibility of the inner worlds.

Shrugging off the mannered cloak of self‐awareness, Gaynor delves into the visual world echoed in the dreaming mind. She treads a path where the impossibility of dreams remains possible and summons forth the emotional truth hidden in plain view.

Gaynorʼs inspiration manifests itself in a variety of artistic media. From an early age Gaynor often sought out the dark, mythical places around her home town of Hull and let her imagination breathe life into the haunted stillness of her surroundings creating a new reality to explore, inhabit and interpret through drawing and song. Exploring the mindʼs subconscious imagery, Gaynor succeeds in “keeping the possible impossibility of dreams” ever near allowing her to capture the fleeting moments between imagination and perception. The realisation of these moments often demands more than one expression with the kernel of an idea feeding into a painting, music or even a photograph. Her works have been described as "evocative, sensual and transportative."

Gaynor does not consider her art as separate or apart from everyday life but as integral to the realisation and development of the human spirit. Although each piece is an incredibly personal testament, they each possess the capability to strike a harmonically resonant and emotional chord in anyone who allows themselves the time to be with them.

"I love the way your figures seem to appear out of nowhere. They emerge like our deepest fears and most intense longings from the evocative backgrounds of abstraction. These mythological figures remind me of archetypes and Freudian thought. Each of your works are compelling and provoke us to encounter our subconscious in a direct manner."
