If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
22 years of age and am currently working as a free lance photographer now on a commission basis. I am on my year out before hopefully studying for my Masters in Art Therapy. I am based in Glasgow but have connections with Manchester and the North West region.
About my artwork
My work focuses on creating new perspectives of what we consider the 'everyday'. As well as looking in to the often unnoticed beauty of small objects, i like to work with site-specific projects, altering a familiar surrounding by placing people and objects in unusual situations or positions. This may mean changing the persons sensory perception to change his/her view of a place they would normally feel comfortable within. After all a place only feels familiar if we see it in the same way everyday. Essentially i try to find an empty space and try to fill it with a new importance, treating the camera as my view point.
Artists I like
Wolfgang Tillmans, Nan Goldin, Rineke Dijkstra, The Yan Family, Naia Del Castillo.
As well as photography, i have a keen interest in the use of art as a healing process. Art Therapy is something i often look in to for inspiration for my own work. Looking at the way an individual responds to an image, especially something they have made themselves, fascinates me and the idea that the process of art making can benefit someone's well being has inspired me to go onto further study a Masters in this subject. I have always been interested in the idea of alternative therapies and am currently learning courses of swedish massage and reflexology. So as you can guess i am quite i laid back individual!
