I am...
an artist who also does a weekly opinion page cartoon for our local newspapers....a mental lifesaver during the years of Bush/Cheney, and beyond. My first cartoon, back in New York City, was 44 years ago in response to the war in Vietnam.
About my artwork
My pencil drawings, hopefully, capture the line and movement and spirit of whatever is happening....a musician playing, a horse and rider jumping, a lemur grooming.
The color work is done from stored images and usually quickly....before the reason for getting out the pastels fades away.
Artists I like
Franz Marc, Kathe Kollwitz, Louise Bourgeois, Vanessa Bell, Gabrielle Munter,
Betty La Duke, Mary Frank, Frida Kahlo
Interests
animals and the natural world, politics (reluctantly), books and more books, music of all kinds, badminton

Maya Lin's 'Wavefield' at Storm King Art Center in Mountainville , NY ;
Dove/O'Keefe...Circles of Influence at the Clark in Williamstown, MA.
Centre of the artworld:
nowhere and everywhere

Thank you Dianne for taking the time to look at my art. I have just completed a couple more new oil paintings and hope to have them displayed on the site in the next week or so. Your encouraging comments are most appreciated. I hope you are succeeding in and enjoying your art.

Hi Dianne,
Any time I get stuck on a horse portrait, it is good to have the old fella out in the paddock to go check if the anatomy is correct. That's his retirement job, minding the cows, mowing the paddocks and being my life model. Thank you for the comment.

Thanks again for looking at my work Dianne. Your positive remarks have really lifted me today.

As I am writing I am looking at your wonderful drawings, they are so lovely and "loose" and immediate, not forced or contrived. You are inspiring me.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work and your positive comment. I just had a look at your gallery. I particularly like the works that have an asian sort of minimalist look to them.

Hi Dianne:
Beautiful work!!! The drawings have wonderful line and feel. The pastels are beautifully done and the paintings evoke the feeling of place.
