About my artwork
My work explores the traces and memories societies leave behind, particularly looking to the
origins of social memories that dictate historical record. Engaging the origins of memories, I
question how they have evolved or devolved over time. I transform familiar images, symbols
and languages found in popular culture to suggest alternate interpretations in a metaphorical
manner.
Through sculpture, video and photography my practice initiates the construction of conventional
symbols or icons from materials embedded with history, culture or politics like the American
Flag in the “Betsy Ross Trilogy” or the key to my apartment in “The Visual Topography of a
Generation Gap”. By unraveling the layers of history, alternative possibilities and understandings
of our adopted memories, histories and identities are illuminated, providing a space for
redefinition.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
