If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
I am...
loving my life and living in Africa!
About my artwork
I came to Kenya in 1997 after completing a Msc and Bsc in Textile Design. This move from the urban jungle of London to the Great Rift Valley had a profound and positive effect on me personally and creatively. The sense of freedom and adventure was tangible and I started to paint to share my experiences.
My work explores these positive influences and empathy with my environment. Our light aircraft allows my husband and me to reach remote places and return to Nairobi to work. I paint, make sketches, notes and scribbles and take photos for reference. I take these back to my rooftop studio where I develop a series of works of my experience, often simplifying a scene or enhancing a colour or impression.

I work predominantly in the studio with oils onto panels or sized canvasses. I then work over a toned ground, followed by a monochrome underpainting. I then paint in one or two sittings, preferring to be spontaneous and uninhibited with my brush strokes.

I also prefer to paint a wide variety of subjects, from Wildlife to Still Life, Landscapes to Market scenes. This freedom suits my temperament and keeps me challenged and creative.
Artists I like
Ken Howard, Pierre Bonnard, Degas, Hirst, Bacon,
Photography. Music and Dance. Learning to Fly our Piper Cherokee 238. Mountain Biking. Traveling around Kenya to hot spots. Film. Animation. Any form of design.

Doing a show by oneself.

I'm coming to the end of my UK show, "Impressions of Kenya". It's been a good experience setting it up by myself and having complete control, however, I can also see the benefits of having the gallery earn it's 40% by doing all that marketing and PR and set up. Will be updating my site with photos of selected work asap. Anyone got any advise for future shows? Would you recommend going through a gallery or retaining control?

Art Show with TUSK TRUST - Elephant Corridor and Underpass

I am in the middle of painting for my solo show in collaboration with TUSK TRUST, with proceeds going towards Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and The Bill Woodley Mount Kenya Trust. The latter is now constructing an elephant corridor that will enable movement from the Mount Kenya forests to the safety of the Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve and beyond. We have some of the funding place for the fencing & maintenance part of this project thanks to the Dutch Government and Safaricom. Virgin Atlantic has… Continue
