If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking
I am...
an incredibly full time student at DMU in Leicester, UK. My current loves (and they are prone to change!) are painting and print and simply anything I can collage. I have a passion for photography and will try anything once!
About my artwork
"Dark but delicate" is how a fellow student described my work and I rather like that. I am very much finding my feet with lots of new techniques, and loving every minute of it.
Artists I like
Robert Rauschenberg, Angela Inscoe, Amy Wasserman, Tracey Emin, Cara Walker, Paul Klee, Kathe Kollwitz, Guy Garnier, Olivier Fischer, Paul De Reus, Jenny Saville, Ron Mueck, Kiki Smith.
Photography, reading (mostly crime novels), walking in rural England, listening and singing (rather loudly and out of tune) to anything from 80s pop/rock/punk to more current drum and bass. Oh, and finding out as much as I can about my learning difficulties (Dyslexia, and associated problems).
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
I shall be using the summer months to find out!

CV - just a little bit about me.

Alison was born in Berlin, Germany in 1969 and spent her early years travelling around Europe with family before settling in the UK. Educated in England and Scotland, Alison experienced many of the negative sides of education in the 70’s and 80’s before turning away from education and into self-taught graphic art and design.   In the late 80’s and early 90’s Pre-computer…

Crits and Presentations.

It's been all talk talk talk at university this week. And it seems, there's more to come. I don't mind all the talking but I don't half feel like I've missed on a whole week of workshop/messy time because of it. But at least today I was able to get some paint onto board! At the advice of my paint tutor I have bought clear varnish, and I have added to that various fillers and paints. I had a bit of a play around with it this morning so looking forward to see how they turned out… Continue

I couldn't agree more. I like to challenge the viewer, get them to think andto  raise issues that are either dismissed because they "happen somewhere else" or "happen to someone else"  and are are not openly discussed. This often means I have to self censor when the audience is "family" orientated in a gallery. I find by having an ambiguous title that images are more readily accepted and that some of my more challenging pieces get through.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I was surprised that i was accused of promoting abortion but either a negative or positive comment is better than no comment at all.

Hi Alison, I enjoyed looking at your artworks - i was fascinated by the baby and how you photographed it. I used a more basic baby form for a performance/photographic sessions at art school - the images seem to disturb some people. What kind of comments have you had?  Sioux
