NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR BRIDGE LONDON, BERLIN AND MIAMI: FALL/WINTER 2008

Bridge Art Fair: The Independent International Exposition, is now accepting applications for its fall/winter 2008 shows. The lineup includes fairs in London during Frieze Art Fair (Oct. 16–19); Berlin during Art Forum Berlin (Oct. 30–Nov. 4); and Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach (Dec. 4–7). While still situated in the top-performing global art markets, Bridge has rapidly evolved from a satellite to a destination show in its own right. In little more than one year, Bridge has skyrocketed to become a major influence in the international contemporary art market, offering new finds for collectors and art professionals worldwide. New initiatives are planned to further advance this growth. Below you will find more information about each of the fairs as well as a link to download an application. Applicants seeking consideration for a specific Focus section should note it on the cover sheet of their application. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received.

With our strong desire to continuously introduce the newest, most innovative galleries showing never-before-seen work, we have developed the Bridge Focus section, providing each fair with a different geo-cultural showcase. With the great success of Bridge New York's Focus Asia, Bridge will continue to devote approximately 15-20% of exposition space at each Bridge Art Fair to these special focus sections.

BRIDGE LONDON : October 16–19
The Trafalgar Hotel
2 Spring Gardens, Trafalgar Square
FOCUS: THE COMMONWEALTH OF NATIONS
SPECIAL EXHIBITION: AFRICA
Application Deadline: May 15, 2008

Bridge is pleased to announce its second annual London edition, concurrent with the spectacularly popular Frieze Art Fair. Bridge will once again take over the luxurious, five-star Trafalgar Hotel in Trafalgar Square, with an estimated 50 to 60 international exhibitors transforming the historic hotel into a contemporary art center. In the midst of cancellations of other American efforts in London, Bridge promises an even more visible second-year effort.

Bridge London 2008 builds on the tremendous success of Bridge London 2007, which featured exhibitors from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK, and the US. Media coverage included Art Newspaper, the New York Times, ABC, BBC, CNN, Fox News, and Art Info. Sales figures were well over a million dollars, with high-profile buyers including Beth DeWoody and a number of major US museums. Lloyd’s TSB, the fair’s sponsor, was inherent to the success of Bridge London, inviting many important clients and offering special art-purchasing programs.

Bridge is pleased to announce our Focus: The Commonwealth of Nations and Special Exhibition: Africa. In London 2008, this special exhibition will proudly showcase young African artists who would not otherwise have the opportunity to reach a centralized global audience. Bridge is also pleased to expand its Projects section, a program which provides artists direct public exposure at the fair. Since its inception, Bridge Projects has launched several budding art careers.

Located at the geographic center of the city across from the National Gallery and National Portrait Galleries, Bridge is only a brief walking distance to the Zoo Art Fair at the Royal Academy near Piccadilly Circus. All of this is only a thirty-minute walk from Frieze Art Fair in Regent's Park.

BRIDGE BERLIN : October 30–November 4
OTA Apartments GmbH
Schönhauser Allee 5
FOCUS: LOS ANGELES
Application deadline: June 30

With an ongoing desire to create a fair that is fresh and innovative in all respects, Bridge is pleased to include Berlin in our fall roster of expositions. Unique in every aspect, Bridge launches a radically new concept in art fairs with its inaugural Berlin showing: the first-ever apartment building art fair. Taking place concurrent with the prestigious Art Forum Berlin, Bridge will take over an entire apartment complex and courtyard, using every available space in the 19-unit, 3-story OTA Berlin as temporary gallery space. An international roster of galleries will both share individual rooms and use whole apartments for themselves. Whether showing with “roommates” or exhibiting alone, Bridge Berlin galleries will present their work as if it were on view in a private collector’s home.

Bridge Berlin also offers the luxury of maximum space, ranging from efficiency-size single bedrooms to sprawling 1,200 sq. ft. three-bedroom apartments, the equivalent of six booths at a conventional fair. Located in the radial center of the city, the OTA Berlin is in the former East Berlin district of Mitte/Prenzlauer Berg at Schönhauser Allee 5. Next door to the popular English-speaking White Trash Fast Food restaurant and upstairs from the always-packed underground Diamond Lounge performance bar, Schönhauser Allee offers a rich array of nightlife, dining, and shopping options.

The Focus section of Bridge Berlin brings Los Angeles glamour to the capital of Germany. In 1967, Los Angeles was named Berlin’s first “sister city.” Both cities have recently experienced a boom in their respective creative cultures, and we expect positively explosive results when we bring them together. Bridge Berlin will also host a variety of special projects in collaboration with local artists and art organizations both from within Berlin and internationally, including an expansive program of live performance.

Bridge Berlin produces a fresh show of contemporary art that will include the newest, most innovative galleries from around the globe. Conceived as a boutique edition, Bridge Berlin will present a maximum of 30 galleries in this unique art-viewing setting. Understood as a place to develop the work of new artists by placing them in notable museum collections and cultivating critical reception, Bridge Berlin will play a critical ancillary role to the key art market efforts of our Miami, London, and New York editions.

BRIDGE MIAMI: December 4–7
The Catalina and Maxine Hotels
1732 Collins Avenue
FOCUS: MEXICO, BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA
Application deadline: July 14

Due to its enormous commercial success, Bridge is pleased to announce our third installment in Miami Beach. Held at both The Catalina and Maxine Hotels, Bridge Miami leads the South Beach satellite art market, located a mere two blocks from Art Basel. Visitors can browse nearly 80 rooms of international emerging and contemporary art while enjoying the two-story Red Bar in The Catalina Hotel and the always-hopping Maxine Restaurant next door.

Bridge Miami 08 builds on the incredible success of Miami 07, where nearly 80 exhibitors totaled sales in excess of three million dollars, reaffirming Bridge as a luxury brand and securely situating Bridge as the flagship show on Collins Avenue.

The Focus section of Bridge Miami brings together in one location the best from Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Taking Mexico as its North American jumping-off point, the Miami Focus includes the South American countries of Brazil and Argentina as selective southern counterpoints. Bridge Projects will also provide a showcase for the works of a hand-picked group of individual artists.

Arguably the largest convergence of contemporary art and design takes place during Art Basel Miami in this annual, star-studded, citywide celebration of new art internationalism. Consistently a muscular destination market, Miami shows absolutely no signs of stopping. Despite a perceptible softening elsewhere in the American art marketplace, Miami continues to astound as far and beyond the top-performing art fair circuit in the United States.
