Event Description

This winter, The Harley Gallery at Welbeck presents an exhibition from one of Britain’s best loved illustrators, Sir Quentin Blake.

On show from 13 November to 12 January, Quentin Blake: As Large as Life brings together over 50 prints which have been commissioned for hospitals in the UK and abroad. From people feeding the birds or walking the dog, to aliens from the planet Zog, these charming drawings have a therapeutic effect and refresh the spirit of those who are in hospital.

Quentin Blake’s book illustrations are much loved – his name conjures images of giraffes and pelicans, giant fruit or magic pencils!  The drawings for hospitals combine his characteristic wit and warmth with reassuring colour, tone and quality of line. The images soothe the senses while drawing you into their narratives.
