PORTRAIT’s is a group exhibition focused entirely on portraiture. We are invited to explore the contemporary approach to this traditional genre, through the artworks of 11 talented national and international artists. From hyper-realistic works that practically erase the detachment between art and reality, to abstract portraits that invite us to dig deeper into the thoughts and feelings of the sitters, our perceptions are challenged in order to discover a reality beyond pure physical depictions.
Dickson Kaloki shows us his love for faces and passion for painting them. He frees himself when he paints portraits and he looses himself in the process of playing with different colours, shapes and strokes which, energises him. He transfers this emotions into his works. He is clearly fascinated by the different expressions on faces and throuhh his works he shows that we are all unique but unified as human regardless of our colour. Also exhibiting vibrant pieces, full of energy, Isabelle Joubert shows her inner thoughts, desires, and way of life through her artworks. She invites the viewer to find something familiar and its own emotions in every artwork. The artwork in the show is called “Constellation”: black and white pictures surrounded by thousand of multicoloured little stars, creating fantasizing and mystery. Most of these portraits can be called “anti-portraits” since you don’t see the whole face of the character. Driven by beauty and the stories she finds, Keia Tamsin’s work captures in ever piece, something interesting or intriguing that she has witnessed in the faces and figures she depicts. She is constantly inspired and interested by humans and our interactions with each other, our environments, our belongings and our selves and she makes us part of this through her artworks.
We would be delighted to welcome you at the preview of PORTRAITS on Wednesday 24th June 6pm – 8:30pm at The Brick Lane Galley.
