The exhibition brings together forty top works from the Matthys-Colle private collection, which S.M.A.K. recently received on long-term loan, and the S.M.A.K. museum collection.
Pop art appeals to everyone’s imagination: who doesn’t know the iconic images of ‘Marilyn Monroe’ by Andy Warhol, ‘Modern Painting with Black Sun’ by Roy Lichtenstein and ‘Feltra’ by Panamarenko? Pop art emerged in the mid-1950s and reached its pinnacle in the 1960s.
This autumn, S.M.A.K. will be shining the spotlight on this art movement, which is more topical than ever, with a selection of works by both American and European artists. Forty masterpieces will guide you through this key period of post-war art history. The exhibition brings together artworks from the Matthys-Colle private collection – which S.M.A.K. recently received on long-term loan – with those from the museum!
With works by among others Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann, Panamarenko, Martial Raysse, Christo, Jean Tinguely, Marcel Broodthaers, Konrad Klapheck, Yves Klein, Claes Oldenburg, Arman en Gerhard Richter.
