Picturesque vistas, lively urban scenes and serene landscapes are a few of the inviting places presented in our LANDSCAPE: RURAL VS URBAN exhibition. Through vivid oils, rich acrylics and bold prints, artists bring to us the contrast of nature’s beauty with the dynamism and energy of various cities. These artists contemplate and experience their surrooundings as an anonimous observer, by being unnoticed and not interfering, they can truly reveal the unseen.
Eugene Neduv’s photographs explore the big city as a source of anonymity, which encourages the untamed side to come out. He feels that its fascinating eccentricity opens up artistic creation. His photographs are a way to record his life experiences and visual impression and by seeing his artwork, we can notice that he is always drawn to portray creative characters and the city’s nightlife. Then, by exploring Karolis Civinskas’ works, we are taken into a drift like journey with no particular destination. The initial point of departure coincides with the final point of arrival. A ring road. The stops along the road are taken to absorb the overwhelming natural phenomenon where the act of photographing is almost involuntary. It is a necessary memory aid. It anchors the observer to the reality and prevents his disappearance into the ether. The photographs do not convey any particular narrative. Rather they serve as a framework for a story to be built upon viewers' experience and consciousness.
The exhibition shows a collection of works inspired by rural and urban settings. From naturalistic scenes to abstract views, these works represent the relevance of this genre as well as the artists’ success to develop this unique subject.
You are warmly welcome to join us at the opening of LANDSCAPE; RURAL VS URBAN on Wednesday 10th June 6pm – 8:30pm at The Brick Lane Gallery – The Annexe.
